The Team:

We are an order fulfillment center for three unique customer channels.   The largest business channel is Direct to Consumer and highly seasonal in nature with a large ramp up in capacity in the 4th quarter.  In addition, we offer consumer services such as returns processing and an onsite doll care center, as well as value add services such as gift wrapping.  The Distribution Center is part of the Mattel North American network of DC's and as such we work as a team to warehouse and transport inventory to balance capacity across the network and support partner Mattel business units.


The Opportunity: 

The EHS specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental health and safety programs in a warehousing and distribution center environment. Their goal is to make sure these programs are effective and compliant with all relevant regulations. Their work impacts a local team that flexes between 100-400 associates annually and complements and supports Mattel’s efforts to be a leader in safety across its global supply chain.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Working with businesses to create safe working conditions.
  • Manage various safety programs such as ergonomics, Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tag out (LOTO), etc.
  • Ensure contractors are adhering to safety requirements.
  • Developing, implementing, and managing environmental health and safety programs.  Ensuring that these programs are effective and compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal and state regulations.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root cause and develop corrective and preventative actions.
  • Analyse EHS metrics and performance indicators to develop and maintain Site Improvement Plan.
  • Deliver safety training on environmental health and safety topics and new employee safety orientation.  This may include helping a small seasonal training staff with orientation materials and delivery of training for seasonal employees. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the network to implement Corporate EHS programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in annual EHS cross functional summits with other Mattel North American and Global partners.
  • Conduct audits and inspections.
  • Facilitate job safety analyses for new and existing work processes in the DC.
  • Maintain and review records of safety walks and near miss reporting.
  • Working with Facilities group on sustainability improvement goals.

What We’re Looking For:

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in common office software 
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Perform risk assessments, to determine preventative/corrective actions, and to lead risk reduction initiatives.
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM or EHS relevant field (Technology, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Federal/State Regulatory Requirements (OSHA, ANSI)
  • Working knowledge of Ergonomics is preferred.
  • OSHA 500 is preferred.
  • Some experience with sustainability a plus, but not required.

Experience:

  • At minimum 3 years of experience in EHS related fields
  • Experience in warehouse or distribution center is preferred.
