The Opportunity: 

You will be a senior engineering leader in Enterprise Data, Analytics, and Shared Services team. This role's responsibilities span all the Data Products/Integrations enabled by the team, for use by all GTO Portfolio teams and Global Business groups for all applications in Mattel. Technical deliverables owned and managed by this person’s teams include data products and pipelines across all of Mattel application portfolios that move data from one point to another, and the platforms and tools that support these.  The person in this role would be central to all new systems implementations, large scale applications transformations and maintenance of the existing integrations ecosystem.

This role is a hands-on technical and engineering leadership role - the person will evaluate multiple data engineering, pipeline, and streaming data technology options, assesses their relative technical strengths and weaknesses to then decide on the optimal tool for Mattel’s use. S/he will leverage both legacy and the latest data products and data integrations tools used in Mattel, to build new products/pipelines and manage existing products/pipelines. On occasion, the person will roll up their sleeves to code or debug. Decisions made by the person with skill have long term implications for Mattel as a Business and for GTO.

The person in this role also enables tools and design patterns for DevSecOps for multiple data pipelines in use at Mattel for use by other portfolio project teams. The person in this role should be fully AI aware – how to use AI for his/her daily tasks, and how to leverage/enable AI in all the data tools in Mattel.

you will partner with other leaders to aid and influence Mattel’s enterprise data and technology architecture and roadmap. S/he will work closely with multiple IT peers, business partners and sponsors to architecture and engineer strategic data solutions that enable a data-driven organization to compete effectively and excel in the marketplace. S/he will be Mattel/GTO’s primary face to the external ecosystem in the space of Data Engineering, working with vendors, industry associations and academia.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Be the technology owner of platforms and tools involved in Data Management, Data Engineering and Data Integrations for use in Data Products & Data Integrations for Mattel’s Global Technology Office (GTO)
  • Cradle-to-grave engineering accountability for data products and data integrations, and lead architecture, design patterns & deployment roadmaps
  • Manage teams and leaders whose teams will design and set up design frameworks to be used by all development teams that use these data integration/pipeline
  • Providing direction and leadership to large global data engineering teams to perform analyses and manage technology
  • Play a key role in systems landscape simplification and modernization – by advising on large scale projects to retire and optimize legacy on-prem based data pipeline tools and migrate residual pipelines to new Cloud+AI based tools
  • Lead the development and maintenance of DevOps/CICD pipelines for all technical components in the GTO landscape for data integrations/pipelines and products
  • Guide all GTO Technology teams on DevSevOps concepts and the use of CICD for all SDLC phases for these tools
  • Partner with other Senior Directors, Directors and leaders in all GTO teams to
    • stabilize and operate smoothly the data integration/pipeline and products
    • partner with Enterprise Architecture teams to maintain an optimal and effective tools portfolio
    • lead and influence the evaluation and selection of technologies and tools that will further the GTO Strategic Roadmap
  • Lead technical teams that manage pipelines, integrations and data products built using Mattel’s data tools –
    • Informatica PowerCenter, Informatica IICS/IDMC, Ascend.io, DBT, CA Autosys, GCP Composer, GCP GKE, GCP CloudRun, Python (custom)
  • Lead technical teams to enable data integration/pipelines and data products for Mattel’s both on-prem and Cloud applications ecosystem:
    • Global and multiple instances of enterprise-grade applications and platforms like Oracle Databases, IBM DB2 databases, iSeries systems, PLM Software, Workfront, Salesforce, Shopify, RightsLogic, Anaplan, HighRadius, BlackLine, Coupa, IBM DOM, etc
    • Oracle EBS/ERP applications – Financials, EPM, Supply Chain Management, Order Management, PLM, PeopleSoft, etc. For this, she/he will be partnering with other Data leaders in the ED&A team
    • GCP based Cloud services and tools for data; like Big Query, Cloud Storage, Composer, GKE, and CloudRun, others
    • GTO shared tools like Kafka, Python, Gitlab, GitHub, and Jira/JiraAlign
  • Own, manage and partner with vendors and other 3rd parties on all things data – products, partnerships, proofs-of-concepts, and industry thought-leadership

Other General Expectations of this Director

  • Manage, develop, recruit, and retain a high-performance team of technology and engineering professionals and technology leaders, both local and global teams
  • Coach and mentor team members and other leaders, including dotted-line reports as necessary. Align team members in roles to best take advantage of their strengths and to grow/diversify their skill sets.
  • Help with and providing inputs to manage operational budgets and plans that support the ED&A function.
  • Support IT leadership functions including annual planning, budgeting, status reporting, executive presentations, and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: 20+ years of IT and technology experience including a minimum of 10 years of IT technical and engineering leadership in the Data and Cloud space
  • Experience: 10+ years of data technology platforms and software, specifically on Cloud based data integration/pipeline and data products
  • People management experience in areas of responsibility and in similar roles (broad-based, senior level) within a comparably sized company
  • Proven and hands-on experience on at least most of the technology and tools mentioned in the Job Responsibilities
  • Proven data and integrations literacy – the ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts and analytical approaches/options.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and understand complex technology concepts and summarize them for various stakeholder groups, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to other GTO leaders
  • Have good executive presence – this leader will present to IT Exec Team and CTO frequently, and represent Mattel with 3rd party entities
  • Ability to motivate people and team members, instill accountability and achieve results
  • Strong product and services vendor relationship and assessment capabilities to identify and leverage new capabilities and tools features to enhance capabilities that support business objectives
  • Ability to work well with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations on complex issues and present to Executive – both technology and Business
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Good time management and organizational skills - ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments concurrently
