The Team:

Our team works alongside Mattel’s Global Trade Show Services, Mattel Creative Services and Mattel Creations to build dynamic trade show displays and sets for TV commercials and still photography shoots, supporting iconic brands such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Fisher Price, among others. Our skilled expertise includes CAD, carpentry, fine art and industrial painting, welding, 3D printing and sculpting. Our work appears in San Diego Comic Con, Las Vegas Licensing Show, New York Toy Fair, Nuremberg International Toy Fair, Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre, Paris, Art Basel Miami and F.A.O. Schwartz Time Square, NY.


The Opportunity: 

The Set Builder will work alongside a group of carpenters, scenic artists, welders and print specialists tasked with bringing sets to life.  Major projects include Toy Fairs, Comic Con, commercials, photo shoots and more.  This role will participate in the creation, design and implementation of projects throughout the year for off-site shows and commercial or photo shoots.

The role will report into the Supervisor and will work at Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Duties include building props, scenery and display units from detailed drawings in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using table saws, radial arm saws, routers, staple guns and a variety of hand tools preferred
  • Work on off-site trade shows, commercials and still photography shoots and campus-wide projects
  • Take direction from Lead Set Builder on project priority, budgeting, and workflow
  • Set up displays and strikes after event

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in related field
  • Passion for their work and commitment to delivering first in class assets
  • Team player who thrives on collaboration
  • Detail oriented and ability to translate design ideas to the final product
  • Advanced knowledge in necessary tools
  • Must own/use basic personal tool kit.
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while stocking supplies and moving scenery
  • Ability to work over-time and occasional weekends
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

The base hourly rate for this position is between $24.00 and $30.00
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base hourly rate will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
