POSITION OVERVIEW / SUMMARY:
The Analyst Windows Administrator & Engineer is responsible for the administration, maintenance, support, and implementation of enterprise Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure across physical and virtual environments. This role provides day-to-day operational support while participating in infrastructure projects, technology upgrades, automation initiatives, and continuous service improvements.
The Analyst ensures the availability, security, and performance of Windows Server platforms and core Microsoft infrastructure services, including Active Directory, Domain Controllers, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy. Collaborating closely with senior engineers, cybersecurity, networking, application teams, and service management, this role supports enterprise infrastructure following ITIL service management and change control processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Windows Server Administration
- Administer and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (Windows Server 2016/2019/2022) across physical and virtual platforms.
- Perform installation, configuration, provisioning, and decommissioning of Windows servers.
- Monitor system health, availability, capacity, and performance.
- Troubleshoot server hardware, operating system, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Perform routine server maintenance activities to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
Active Directory Administration
- Administer Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), including users, groups, Organizational Units (OUs), and service accounts.
- Support Domain Controllers, replication health, FSMO roles, and authentication services.
- Maintain Active Directory Sites and Services.
- Perform routine administration of Group Policy Objects (GPOs), including creation, modification, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Support enterprise identity and authentication services, including Kerberos, LDAP, and NTLM.
DNS & DHCP Administration
- Administer enterprise DNS services, including zones, records, conditional forwarders, and troubleshooting name resolution issues.
- Manage DHCP scopes, reservations, failover configurations, and IP address assignments.
- Monitor and maintain DNS and DHCP service availability.
Patch & Vulnerability Management
- Plan, coordinate, and implement Windows Server patching activities following enterprise maintenance schedules.
- Utilize Microsoft WSUS, Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM), Intune, or equivalent enterprise patch management solutions.
- Validate successful deployment of operating system updates and security patches.
- Perform post-patch health checks and remediation activities.
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts in partnership with Cybersecurity teams.
- Maintain compliance with enterprise security and patch management standards.
Operational Support
- Provide Tier 2 support for Windows Server infrastructure and Microsoft platform services.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents and service requests within established SLAs.
- Participate in problem management activities and root cause analysis.
- Support scheduled maintenance windows and participate in an on-call rotation when required.
- Maintain operational documentation, procedures, and knowledge articles.
Infrastructure Projects
- Participate in infrastructure deployment and migration projects.
- Assist with server upgrades, operating system migrations, hardware refreshes, and virtualization initiatives.
- Support implementation of new Microsoft technologies and infrastructure enhancements.
- Collaborate with senior engineers during solution deployment and testing.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and recovery testing.
Automation & Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administrative tasks.
- Support automation of server provisioning, reporting, patching, and health monitoring.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through standardization and automation.
Collaboration & Service Management
- Work closely with Infrastructure Engineering, Security, Networking, Storage, and Application teams.
- Execute infrastructure changes in accordance with ITIL Change Management processes.
- Participate in Incident, Problem, Request, and Change Management activities.
- Ensure accurate documentation of infrastructure configurations and operational procedures.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Microsoft Technologies: Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Active Directory Domain Services, Domain Controller administration, Group Policy Management, DNS, DHCP, Windows File Services, DFS Namespace & DFS Replication, Windows Administration Center, Active Directory Users & Computers, Active Directory Sites & Services, LDAP, Kerberos, NTLM, Virtualization, VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, and Virtual machine provisioning and administration.
- Patch Management: Experience with one or more of the following: Microsoft WSUS, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM), Microsoft Intune, Windows Update for Business, and Enterprise vulnerability remediation processes
- Automation: PowerShell scripting, Windows Task Scheduler, Basic scripting, and automation concepts.
- Monitoring & Management Tools: Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as: SolarWinds, Microsoft SCOM, vRealize Operations, PRTG, and Logic Monitor.
- Service Management: Experience using ITSM platforms such as: ServiceNow, and Jira.
- Service Management: Working knowledge of: Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and ITIL Framework
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience administering Microsoft Windows Server in an enterprise environment.
- Hands-on experience supporting Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Experience performing Windows Server patch management using enterprise patching tools.
- Experience supporting VMware virtual infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
- Experience supporting production enterprise environments with high availability requirements.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft security best practices and Windows Server administration.
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- ITIL Foundation Certification
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) hybrid environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Identity.
- Experience with Azure Arc and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Experience supporting enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.
