The Assistant Store Manager partners with the Store Manager to lead daily store operations, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and achieve sales and operational objectives. This role develops and inspires high-performing teams while driving merchandising execution, financial performance, and operational excellence. Through collaborative leadership and sound business decision-making, the Assistant Store Manager helps create an engaging environment that supports Mattel's brand, people, and business goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead daily store operations to achieve sales, customer service, financial, and operational goals while ensuring compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Develop, coach, and inspire leaders and associates through ongoing feedback, performance management, succession planning, and talent development to build a high-performing team.
  • Drive sales performance by monitoring key performance indicators, modeling selling behaviors, and implementing strategies that increase customer engagement, conversion, UPT, ADS, and customer data capture.
  • Oversee operational execution by ensuring effective inventory management, merchandising standards, cash handling, workflow efficiency, and overall store readiness.
  • Partner with the Store Manager and cross-functional business partners to execute store strategies, support organizational initiatives, and deliver consistent operational excellence.
  • Manage facility maintenance, vendor relationships, and store projects to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers and team members.
  • Analyze financial performance, payroll, expenses, and operational metrics to identify opportunities, improve efficiency, and support informed business decisions.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree or coursework in Business, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive retail leadership experience in a high-volume, customer-focused environment.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing retail management teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven leadership, coaching, and performance management skills.
  • Strong ability to drive sales performance and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, cash handling, and operational best practices.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing payroll, budgets, and business performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail business systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business needs.
