The Team:

We are an order fulfillment center for three unique customer channels.   The largest business channel is Direct to Consumer and highly seasonal in nature with a large ramp up in capacity in the 4th quarter, spanning two shifts.  In addition, we offer consumer services such as returns processing and an onsite doll care center, as well as value add services such as gift wrapping and doll ear piercing.  The Distribution Center is part of the Mattel North American network of DC's and as such we work as a team to warehouse and transport inventory to balance capacity across the network and support partner Mattel business units. 


The Opportunity: 

The Manager Distribution Services is responsible for providing operational leadership for a fast paced, high volume, multi-shift distribution center.  The business utilizes multiple Warehouse Management Systems, extensive conveyor automation, and a Pick-to-Light system for the Direct to Consumer fulfillment operation.  This position is responsible for all aspects of the multi-channel order fulfillment process, including inventory management, optimizing order fulfillment, and exceeding customer service expectations.  Extensive experience in warehouse and fulfillment processes, high standards on safety, performance, culture, and leadership are essential to drive Mattel/American Girl’s core values of Collaboration, Execution, and Innovation.   

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Supervise, direct, and guide day-to-day operations of the distribution center including pick line set up, inventory control, picking, packing, value add services, shipping, returns processing, and doll care services.
  • Maintain and analyze key metrics for the distribution center, including, but not limited to:  Productivity, Quality, Service Time, Order Accuracy, and Inventory Accuracy.
  • Drive productivity initiatives and ensure productivity targets are achieved.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute an annual budget for operational and labor costs based on projected sales provided by the three channels: DTC, B2B, and proprietary Retail.
  • Oversee the staff training programs to ensure the DC delivers upon established goals.
  • Align Organizational Structure according to business needs in the short term, identify opportunities for the medium & long term, and prepare our leadership bench for the future.
  • Develop short-term and long-term labor needs based on sales and inventory forecast, industry influences, market conditions, and other key factors.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture; identifying root cause analysis and corrective actions on service and performance opportunities, based on facts and data.
  • Execute against annual financial budget, including capital expenses.
  • Analyze and propose optimized solutions for operational obstacles (layout, space needs and utilization, equipment needs, capital expense projects, major process changes…)
  • Work with direct reports to develop and implement plans that impact the DC by coordinating with other leaders within the DC to ensure cross utilization and optimization of labor resources.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate with corporate partners and other Mattel DCs in the network to ensure internal and external compliance requirements are met.

  • Able to forecast, plan, and budget; develop workforce plans; develop business plans and goals
  • Able to collaborate with employees at all levels (supervisory staff, management, executive staff)
  • Skilled at creating and maintaining functional and cross-functional partnerships
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Able to analyze and interpret reports and data
  • Strong ability to influence internal and external parties
  • Strong mathematical skills- ability to calculate figures such as percentages, volume, cost, time
  • Competent in MS Office Suites
  • Strong knowledge in Warehouse Management Systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

Experience and Education:

  • BA/ BS preferably in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience as an operations leader in a distribution center.
