The Opportunity:
Mattel is seeking a visionary Principal Digital Architect to shape the future of our global digital ecosystem—spanning direct-to-consumer (DTC), e-commerce, and immersive digital experiences. This role is at the forefront of innovation, driving enterprise-scale AI transformation and redefining how consumers engage with Mattel’s brands across every digital touchpoint.
As a senior technology leader and thought leader, you will define and lead next-generation architectures that blend composable commerce, cloud-native platforms, and AI-driven intelligence to deliver highly personalized, scalable, and secure customer experiences. You will partner across business and technology to turn bold ideas into impactful, real-world solutions.
What Your Impact Will Be:
Digital & Commerce Architecture Leadership
- Define and lead the end-to-end architecture strategy for Mattel’s global DTC, e-commerce, and digital experience platforms.
- Architect omnichannel consumer journeys across web, mobile, marketplaces, and emerging digital channels.
- Drive adoption of headless, composable, and MACH-based architectures to enable speed, flexibility, and innovation.
Enterprise AI & Intelligent Experiences
- Lead the design and implementation of AI-powered digital capabilities, including:
- Personalization and recommendation systems
- Intelligent search and discovery
- Dynamic pricing and promotion optimization
- Fraud detection and trust systems
- Customer 360 and predictive insights
- Champion Generative AI and conversational experiences to power next-gen commerce and engagement.
- Establish scalable AI/ML architecture patterns, pipelines, and governance across the enterprise.
Technology Strategy & Innovation
- Define enterprise architecture blueprints, standards, and roadmaps aligned with Mattel’s digital and business strategy.
- Evaluate and implement modern platforms including e-commerce, DXP, CDP, AI/ML platforms, and cloud services.
- Lead innovation initiatives, POCs, and pilots exploring emerging technologies and new business models.
Platform Engineering & Scalability
- Architect cloud-native, event-driven, and microservices-based systems at global scale.
- Establish best practices for APIs, data streaming, and real-time architectures.
- Drive engineering excellence across DevSecOps, CI/CD, and SRE practices.
- data foundation (Customer 360) across all digital experiences.
Leadership & Influence
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, influencing strategic technology decisions.
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Data, and Engineering leaders to align architecture with business outcomes.
- Lead architecture governance, reviews, and cross-portfolio alignment.
- Mentor and inspire engineering and architecture teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience & Expertise
- 10+ years in software engineering and architecture, including enterprise-scale digital platforms
- Proven experience as a Lead or Enterprise Architect driving large-scale transformation
- Deep expertise in e-commerce, DTC platforms, and digital experience ecosystems
- Strong background in cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI)
Technical Depth
- Hands-on experience with:
- Microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures
- Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Headless and composable commerce frameworks
- Strong understanding of AI/ML systems, including personalization, predictive modeling, and GenAI
- Experience with modern data platforms and streaming technologies (Kafka, BigQuery)
Enterprise Mindset
- Expertise in security, privacy, and compliance for consumer-facing platforms
- Experience implementing DevSecOps and SRE practices
- Ability to design for global scale, resilience, and performance
Leadership & Communication
- Exceptional ability to influence executives and cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong communication skills for presentation, storytelling
- A recognized thought leader with a passion for innovation and continuous learning
- Experience mentoring and managing small, high-performing teams
Education & Other
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- Cloud and/or AI certifications are a plus
- Willingness to travel (10–20%)
