The Opportunity: 

The San Bernardino Toy Store at Mattel is recruiting an Assistant Manager.  Under the direction of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager will help in the planning and execution of all aspects of business, including; personnel, sales and promotions, inventory buying, and management.  The role will provide an exceptional shopping experience to all guests and provide a safe and rewarding environment for associates.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Staffing and Personnel Management

  • Assist in interviewing and hiring associates
  • Assist in training and coaching
  • Manage onboarding process for new hires and seasonal employees
  • Establish daily priorities, schedules, and communicate with the team as needed
  • Oversee the daily team huddles and maintain huddle notebooks for the store and warehouse teams

Sales and Promotions

  • Develop monthly and annual promotional calendar.
  • Design and develop advertising campaigns to support promotional activities including design and deployment of, print ads, e-blasts, social media, website design, and updates.
  • Employee engagement events and promotions.
  • Design and develop biannual Charity Catalogs and monthly resale lists.
  • Updating the Promo Tool for sale prices and promotions.
  • Design sale and promotional signage.
  • Assist with development and procurement of licensed products for each season.
  • Order movie tickets and other certificates.

Inventory Management

  • Order all Mattel, Fisher-Price, Mega, AG products to support El Segundo Toy Store, Holiday Tent, Charities, Resale Orders, Conventions, Employee Wish List, and special projects.
  • Develop inventory FCST to support sales and financial objectives.
  • Maintain margin and pricing strategies to support financial objectives.
  • Receive all orders into MIMICS, including DCP, TDR, Omni and outside vendor.
  • Maintain inventory integrity by -
    • Manage scrap logs.
    • Manage daily negative inventory reports.
    • Manage product locator system.
    • Conduct physical inventory.
    • Conduct weekly cycle counts.
  • Schedule deliveries and coordinate driver’s schedule.
  • Coordinate trailer storage during peak season.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of trailers.
  • Maintain truck fleet by
    • Daily safety checks
    • Scheduling routine maintenance
    • Manage fuel and maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe, efficient, and safe warehouse.
  • Conduct regular safety audits.

Administrative and Back-Office Functions

  • Manage receipts by-
    • Daily deposit reconciliation.
    • Update sales detail daily.
  • Manage IT, POS
    • Prepare each POS for updates.
    • Basketball court and remote sales
    • Tent – planning and execution
    • Manage extra server.
  • Manage vendor and supplier payments.
    • Stet up all PO’s for vendor payments
    • Approve payment requests.
  • Financial Reporting
    • Review AP Detail bimonthly.
    • Log accruals and reclasses monthly.
    • Review compensation allocations weekly.
    • Report discrepancies prior to month end close.
    • Review P&L monthly.

Special Projects and Conventions

  • Assist in the planning and execution of all special projects including conventions, pop-up stores, campus events as requested.
  • Order products for events
  • Provide appropriate staffing for events.

  • Using the M.A.T.T.E.L. commitment of service, provide an exceptional experience for all guests.

  • Track “deals of the week”
  • Create bounce-back opportunities for customer retention.

What We’re Looking For: 

  • 2-4 Years’ retail experience
  • 1-2 Years’ managing a team in a retail environment
  • Experience managing multiple locations
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to lead with empathy and keep the team focused on the main goal
  • Ability to work with a calm sense of urgency
  • Experience working with customers and creating an enjoyable shopping experience

The base hourly range for this position is $20.00- $24.50.
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however base hourly rate will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience
